KNOW WHAT THE OFFER COVERS

Seychelles car hire insurance

Choose your dates

Seychelles car hire insurance needs a closer look than the word “included”. The cover attached to the car, its exclusions and your duties after an incident all matter. We make those distinctions clear so that you can compare an offer with the journey you intend to make.

What should you compare in the car details?

Start with a car available for your dates in the SEZ pickup results. Open its conditions and identify the cover offered before comparing it with another vehicle. The cover wording explains responsibility for damage under each offer.

Cover, the security deposit and the rental price are separate parts of an offer. The insurance wording determines which damage is covered, including when the car has no security deposit.

Additional cover, excess and payment responsibilities are specified for the selected car. The conditions attached to that offer set out its exclusions and any available upgrades.

Compare the same rental period and collection arrangement when weighing the offers. Changing the dates or pickup area at the same time as the cover makes it harder to understand what caused the difference in the total.

What does standard insurance exclude?

The Seychelles country terms explicitly exclude damage to wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior from standard insurance. Those are separate parts of the vehicle, and the exclusions deserve attention even when a listing says that standard cover is included.

Any additional protection is specified in the selected offer, alongside the standard exclusions.

The same care applies when choosing a car for an independent stay on Mahé. The permitted use and insurance conditions apply throughout the island hire.

The offer describes the protection available for that car. The country conditions also set out the reporting duties after an insured event.

Which roads and islands are permitted?

Rental cars may travel only on paved public roads. An unpaved shortcut is outside that permission, even if it appears on a map or looks passable. The same restriction applies to SUVs.

The vehicle may not leave the island where its rental is based. A Mahé vehicle stays on Mahé, and a car hired on Praslin stays on Praslin. Plan separate bookings around any island change instead of treating a ferry journey as an extension of the same rental.

These use restrictions apply throughout the rental, alongside the insurance conditions attached to the car.

What must you do after an insured event?

Notify the rental agent immediately and obtain a police report, except where otherwise agreed with the agent. The country terms say that failure to fulfil those conditions cancels the insurance issued for the car and makes the renter fully responsible.

Keep the rental company’s contact details accessible during the hire. The confirmation email supplies those details. Notification is required immediately after the insured event.

Any exception to the reporting process requires agreement with the agent. When an incident occurs, contact the company and follow the applicable process. Keep the communication and any documents with your rental records.

The driver’s responsibilities also include keeping the booking phone number reachable. A working contact arrangement matters beyond collection because the company may need to communicate with you during the rental.

When is insurance invalid?

Insurance is invalid for deliberate damage caused by intentional vandalism or neglect. This applies alongside the standard exclusions and reporting duties.

Permitted roads, the home-island restriction, incident reporting and cover wording remain applicable with an offer-specific cover upgrade.

The country rental conditions retain the exact clauses. They should be considered alongside the terms displayed for the car rather than replaced by a brief summary or a card label in the search results.

Does paying a deposit change the cover?

A security deposit and insurance serve different purposes in the booking decision. The cover wording sets the insured damage; the deposit terms set the security required at collection.

Check the physical-card and deposit conditions for the car you prefer. The rental company may require a credit card, or may specify that an eligible debit card is accepted. Those payment requirements need to be satisfied independently of your cover choice.

Before confirming, you should be able to explain the offer to yourself in plain terms: what you pay for the rental, what deposit may be required, what the insurance excludes and who you contact after an incident. An unanswered question is a reason to seek clarification before paying.

Before you choose

Does standard cover include the windscreen?

No. The country conditions exclude windscreen damage from standard insurance, along with wheels, undercarriage and interior damage. Check the selected offer for any different cover.

Does no deposit mean no responsibility for damage?

The insurance wording determines responsibility for damage, including for a car offered without a security deposit.

Must I report an insured event?

You must immediately notify the rental agent and obtain a police report, except as otherwise agreed with the agent. Failure to fulfil those conditions invalidates the insurance issued for the car.

Can extra cover allow a ferry trip with the car?

The country terms prohibit travel outside the vehicle’s home island. Do not treat an insurance option as permission to move the car between islands.
